EUROFLEETS+ AUV workshop / training

Workshop overview
An AUV workshops / training on AUV operation, organized within the Eurofleets+ training program, will be held at the Robotics Lab workshop of Gothenburg University (UGOT) in collaboration with the Swedish Marine Robotics Centre (SMaRC).
The workshop will have a duration of 5 days (from Oct 31st to Nov 4th) and is offered to European PhD and post-graduate students (students of all nationalities enrolled at European universities).
Course elements include technical preparation of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, mission planning, integration of scientific payload, data acquisition and post-processing of various types of sensors with emphasize on hydroacoustic sensors (multibeam, sediment profiling, ADCP). Theoretical course elements will be applied practically in on board the RV Skagerak.
Learning objectives
Students participating in this workshop will learn to:
- Learning (-by-doing) the logistical challenges and advantages with AUVs as research tools
- Acoustic methods for seabed charting
- Limitations and opportunities of AUVs as platforms
- Importance of the AUV sensor suite
Time Plan
Oct 30th – Arrival
Oct 31st – set-up software, installing maps, plan draft mission, pre-mission procedures and QC of mission plan
Nov 1st – Group excercises and lectures
Nov 2nd – Practical training (mission QC, pre-dive checks and execution of mission)
Nov 3rd – Practical training (mission QC, pre-dive checks and execution of mission) and data post-processing
Nov 4th – data post-processing and course report preparation.

In preparation for the course, participants should have installed and started HuginOS on their laptop. There will be course laptops available (needing book 1 week before course starting).
A total of 12 positions are available for European PhD and post-graduate students (students of all nationalities enrolled at European universities), and selection will be based on information provided in the application form.
The course is free of charge, but students will pay for travel and accommodation (accommodation available at Kristineberg marine research station).
Partial expenses reimburse will be available after received claim submission with receipts for reimbursement.
