The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) is a large Governmental Research Centre that belongs to the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, under the General Secretariat for Research and Technology. It is constituted of three Institutes, the Institute for Oceanography, of Fisheries and Inland Waters, and of Marine Biology, Genetics and Aquaculture. The staff totals approximately 480 people comprising researchers, scientists, technicians, administrative and secretarial employees.

The Centre has major field research facilities and equipment, including 2 multipurpose research vessels, 1 manned submersible, 2 ROVs and a wide range of water column and seabed monitoring and surveying instruments. These resources are supported by well-equipped laboratories and analytical facilities.

Role

HCMR are involved in WP2 Transnational Access.
Access to Research Vessels and related infrastructure: RV Aegaeo [Global/Regional].
The Institute of Oceanography of HCMR has successfully participated in Eurofleets I & II by sharing the RV Aegaeo for a total of five cruises in the Mediterranean Sea: HCMR-IO will offer RV Aegaeo within the framework of Eurofleets+ proposal.

HCMR will also undertake activities in WP4 Call Management and Proposal Evaluation, WP6 Education and Training, and WP9 Dissemination and Communication and WP3 Joint research activities.

Amongst other activities, HCMR hosts the Hellenic National Oceanographic Data Centre –HNODC- and has expertise on data management and dissemination.

Outreach to new users: Eurofleets+ calls will be advertised to all collaborating parties in Greece and elsewhere. In specific, promotion of Eurofleets+ will be made through presentations to Universities, international and local conferences and meetings.
